After a summer break, the exhibition Yugo.Logo – Graphic Identification in Yugoslavia at the Kortil Gallery reopens its doors from Monday, September 1st until September 20th.
The exhibition is based on the homonymous online archive and a research project that was launched a few years ago by the Belgrade designer Ognjen Ranković, with the aim of collecting and preserving graphic identification and information about the pioneers of the craft of that period. As he states:
The principal starting point of the whole ‘Yugo logo’ project lies in the fact that most of the graphic symbols presented on this exhibition, created more than half a century ago, are considered to be exceptionally high-quality solutions and up to modern standards. Their influence on contemporary (local) design, but also on the establishment of collective aesthetic criteria, is by no means negligible, which makes the subject of the entire research – though seemingly archaic – very up-to-date.
The co-author of the Rijeka exhibition is designer Antonio Karača, who joined Ranković in the project and creation of two Yugo.Logo books. Both editions feature the works of 144 designers, as well as more than six hundred logos.
Kortil Gallery also announces expert guided tours of the exhibition in September every Thursday, September 4, 11 and 18 at 6 PM, and a street walk through the remaining logos in the public space of Rijeka with gallery manager Ivana Lučić, scheduled for Monday, September 15 at 6 PM.
